John Penn Milton Midshipman

John was born around the end of July or into August 1900 to parents John Penn Milton Snr and Alice Ellen and christened at St Mary's Church Penzance, Cornwall, on 20th August 1900. He was recorded again the following year aged 8 months old on the 1901 census, living at 13 North Parade in Penzance.

10 years later he was listed on the 1911 census, then a schoolboy, living in a full house at Udal Torre, Yelverton with his parents, a sister, two cousins, a governess, a nurse and 6 servants.

Unfortunately no records exist between the census and his posting to the Vanguard except for the date he joined the dreadnought on 1st May 1917.

He was aboard the ship for just 9 weeks before he was killed, aged 17.
